The Formula

Listen, I know it may sound corny or a little altruistic, but I have a strong desire in my work to help folks improve their lives in meaningful ways.

I have spent a lot of time in my 18-year career considering what the best formula would be to truly help improve outcomes for clients that work with our firm. As a result, Monson Wealth Management, Inc. (MWM) is now implementing a formula that research and personal experience have shown to significantly impact and improve clients’ end result….IF, over time, they will engage in a meaningful way.

Let me share a personal story that illustrates the power of coupling investing with planning; key elements to the MWM Success Formula.

Basketball is a love of mine. It’s a sport I love to play but I also really get into watching team dynamics and the product of their efforts.

One of my all-time favorite basketball players is John Stockton. In fact, when I was a dorky little 6th grader, I was at a shooting camp with him here in Pasco. I was a pretty good shot in my day and I actually WON a game of BUMP against him and the rest of the campers! (How dare you think he let me win!?!?! I was really good….I WAS!)

My prized trophy was a signed T-Shirt from JOHN STOCKTON! I never wore that shirt because I didn’t want the ink of the signature to wash away. So instead, I stored it carefully into a drawer for safe-keeping. Turns out, that drawer failed me big-time, because my irreplaceable t-shirt vanished! I have no idea where it went.

It still kills me inside.

Karl Malone was an ideal teammate for John Stockton.

What made them so complimentary of each other was their diverse sets of skills and attributes that allowed them to feed off one another. John Stockton was a short, quick, shifty guard with passing skills that at times, made it seem that he had eyes in the back of his head, not to mention his deadly long-range jumper.

Karl Malone was a beast of a man. He could finish strong at the rim, shoot incredible short-range jumpers, set up in the post, and finish.

As a pair, they were just so fun to watch. Their time together with the Utah Jazz led them to many exciting playoff runs and even into the finals a couple of times.

The cool thing that you experience with these two players is that they had a multiplier effect on each other. The presence of one made the other one better.

The hardest play to guard in basketball is the pick and roll. John Stockton could come off of a pick and roll from Karl Malone and the opponent would ultimately be at their mercy. If you didn’t pick up Karl on his roll to the basket, John was going to find a way to get him that ball at the perfect spot for him to finish. If you went under the pick to take away the roll, John Stockton was going to hit a three pointer behind the screen. If you trailed over Karl’s massive screen, John had you on his hip and he was going to finish in the lane because no one could ever catch up! It was sick!

I share this because it is THE PERFECT ANALOGY.

I have clients and prospects that I meet with all the time that will do one part of the formula, Investing or planning….but not both. They are robbing themselves.

Numerous clients invest for long term, but don’t engage in an in-depth financial planning process. They fail to realize that the magic is in the combination of the two. If you will continuously engage in a robust, fulfilling planning process and also participate in an evidence-based approach to your investing and savings, you will experience and compound effects which will greatly impact to your life.

They make each other better; Stockton and Malone!

Let’s take your finances to a championship level and engage in these combined processes together.

Our Flat-Fee program is designed with these clients in mind. We don’t charge you more just because you have more.

Give us a call and in 15 minutes we can assess your situation to see if this makes sense for you.
